Pelham takes third at Jaguar Classic

The Pelham Panthers softball team took third at the Spain Park Jaguar Classic after falling to tournament champion Scottsboro 2-1 in the championship semifinals.

Scottsboro took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and held Pelham at bay for most of the game.

The Panthers (10-1) took advantage of a lead-off single by Kristian Foster when Madi Walker doubled to left to bring home Foster for Pelham’s only run of the game.

The Panthers began bracket play with a resounding 18-2 victory over Clay-Chalkville. Pelham scored 11 runs in the third inning to end the game by mercy-rule.

Pelham defeated Curry 7-1 to set up a quarterfinal game against Spain Park.

The Panthers scored five unanswered runs to take a 5-1 victory.

The Jaguars took an early 1-0 led in the first inning when Mary Beth Glass doubled to score Mary Kathryn Bonamy from second.

Pelham quickly took the lead in the top of the second when Caitlyn Sapp doubled down the left field line to bring home Reagan Curtis and Jordan Ingram for a 2-1 Panthers’ advantage.

Pelham added three runs in the top of the third to seal the win.

Ingram led the Panthers with a 2-for-2 performance with two RBIs. Sapp added a 1-for-3 effort from the plate with two runs batted in.
