Falcons drop conference match against Augusta State

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell to visiting Augusta State University 5-4 in a Peach Belt Conference match March 3.

The Jaguars entered the match ranked No. 45 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II women’s tennis rankings.

The Falcons (4-4) won two singles’ matches and two doubles’ matches against Augusta State.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova remained undefeated in singles’ matches this season with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Victoria Lindqvist of Augusta State 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles’ match. Polcerova improved to 8-0 in singles’ matches this season, including 7-0 in No. 1 singles’ matches.

Junior Haley Highfield defeated Liv Pettersson of Augusta State 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 2 singles’ match.

Sophomore Anais Robert and Polcerova defeated Lindqvist and Pettersson 8-4 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Highfield and freshman Allison Howell defeated Roberta Oliveira and Julie Fontaine of Augusta State 8-4 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Senior Lauren Blair and freshman Juanita Ossa fell to Lissa Murakami and Maria Cecila Pimentel of Augusta State 8-1 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

Howell fell to Oliveira 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 3 singles’ match. Robert fell to Pimentel 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles’ match.

Ossa fell to Fontaine 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 5 singles’ match. Blair fell to Murakami 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles’ match.

The Falcons return to action Tuesday, March 5 with a home match against UAH at 2:30 p.m.
