Spain Park splits doubleheader with Pell City

The Spain Park Jaguars split a doubleheader against Pell City in a pair of 1-run games March 7.

The Jaguars were able to fight off Pell City for a 10-9 victory in the opening game. Spain Park jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first inning of play. Pell City took the lead in the third and fourth innings, but Spain Park answered with runs to regain the advantage.

Josh Rich pitched Spain Park to the game-one victory and allowed three earned runs on five hits in four innings of work. Grant Veteto led Spain Park batting 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI.

Spain Park was able to force extra innings, but was unable to complete a comeback in the nightcap of the doubleheader in a 9-8 loss to Pell City.

The Jaguars held a 4-1 lead after three innings, but Pell City responded with a pair of runs in the fourth and fifth innings for a 5-4 edge. Spain Park added a run in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings, but Pell City outscored the Jaguars 4-3 in the eight to take the 9-8 victory.

Veteto led Spain Park batting 3-for-4 with a doubles and two RBIs. Jon Sumner finished 2-for-4 with two triples, two RBIs, and two runs scored.
