Glover captures individual title in inaugural women’s track and field event

BIRMINGHAM – The University of Montevallo women’s track and field team made a successful debut March 8-9 in the Birmingham-Southern College Invitational meet with senior Kaley Glover capturing the individual 5,000-meter run championship.

Glover beat out the field of 21 competitors with her time of 18:34.72, which placed her more than 11 seconds ahead of second-place finisher Jennifer Cooper of Mississippi College.

“We are very excited to have the program officially started,” said Montevallo women’s track and field coach Tommy Barksdale.  “We had some very good performances today, highlighted by Kaley Glover.”

Other top performances included junior Lauren Recchia finishing 10th in the 1,500-meter run with her time of 5:06.57.

The top performance in a field event came from sophomore Madison Brown. Brown finished fifth in the javelin throw with her toss of 113 feet, 3 inches.

The Falcons return to action Friday, March 15 with a meet at Samford University.
