Chelsea High School’s boys soccer team picked up a quality 4-2 road victory over Ft. Payne March 9.

The game started very poorly for Chelsea (8-2-1) when Daniel Miranda gave Ft. Payne a 2-0 edge and had Chelsea on its heels.

However, as the half wore on, Chelsea began to open up and create more chances as the momentum changed. Just before halftime, Chelsea attacker Will Bevill played a ball from the right flank and teammate Vitalik Carter flicked it over to oncoming midfielder Tony Thompson who struck a low driving shot into the lower right netting, bringing Chelsea back to within a goal, 2-1 at the half.

In the second half, Chelsea came out firing, missing a few golden chances at equalizing the score. Midway through the half, Bevill slipped the ball through toward goal and striker Taylor Martindale split two Ft. Payne defenders in route to a shot that scored near the back post.

With about twenty minutes left, Chelsea found another chance when Cangrejo beat a defender down the right flank and played the ball across to the middle of the box where forward Kalani Dickinson stepped in front of a defender and punched in the go-ahead goal for a 3-2 Chelsea lead.

Finally, Chelsea put its final mark on the victory when Carpenter kicked a 70-yard free kick that bounced toward the Ft. Payne keeper only for Chelsea’s Bevill to flick with his head just in front of the goal, redirecting it into the net giving Chelsea the 4-2 come-from-behind victory.
