Falcons sweep Tuskegee University in women’s tennis match

TUSKEGEE – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team swept Tuskegee University 9-0 in a match on the road March 12.

The Falcons (6-4 overall, 2-3 in Peach Belt Conference) won all six singles’ matches and all three doubles’ matches as they completed a season sweep of the Tigers.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova improved to 10-0 this season in singles’ action after defeating Kimberly Bowen of Tuskegee 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles’ match.

Junior Haley Highfield defeated Navilla Paul of Tuskegee 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles’ match. Freshman Allison Howell defeated Cheryl Dixon of Tuskegee 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 3 singles’ match.

Sophomore Anais Robert defeated Krystal Bowen of Tuskegee 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 4 singles’ match. Senior Lauren Blair won her No. 5 singles’ match 6-0, 6-0.

Sophomore Meagan Stevens rounded out the sweep in singles’ matches with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Felicea Penn in the No. 6 singles’ match.

Polcerova and Robert defeated Paul and Kimberly Bowen 8-2 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Highfield and Howell defeated Dixon and Krystal Bowen 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Blair and Stevens defeated Christa Ratcliff and Akli Washington of Tuskegee 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

The Falcons return to action Wednesday, March  13 with a home match against Peach Belt Conference foe Columbus State University at 1 p.m.
