Fulmer named NCBWA region Hitter of the Week

MONTEVALLO – University of Montevallo junior Will Fulmer has been selected as the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association NCAA Division II Southeast Region Hitter of the Week.

Fulmer was also named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week.

Fulmer finished with a .727 batting average, a .769 on-base percentage and a .909 slugging percentage while leading the Falcons (17-7 overall, 9-3 in Peach Belt Conference) to a 5-0 record during the week, including a three-game sweep of Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference series.

Fulmer, who went 16-for-22 at the plate, finished with four extra-base hits and drove in seven runs in the five victories. Fulmer scored 11 runs during the week and finished with four stolen bases.

The 5-foot-10 second baseman from Palm Harbor, Fla. also turned three double plays and finished with just one error in 45 chances, good for a .978 fielding percentage, during the week. Fulmer’s play helped the Falcons move into the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper NCAA Division II poll with a No. 22 ranking.

Fulmer opened the week with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate with a double and a stolen base in the Falcons’ 8-4 win over Stillman College. Fulmer finished 4-for-4 at the plate with a pair of doubles in a 11-1 win over Maryville University.

Fulmer opened the weekend series against Flagler College with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate while driving in three runs in a 12-2 win in the opener. Fulmer went 3-for-4 at the plate with a double, drove in four runs and scored two runs in a 14-6 win in the second game of the series.

Fulmer capped the week by going 3-for-5 at the plate and scoring two runs as the Falcons clinched a sweep of Flagler College with a 7-6 win in 10 innings.

Fulmer currently leads the Peach Belt Conference in batting average and stolen bases. Fulmer carries a .440 batting average and stolen 12 bases through the Falcons’ first 24 games this season.

Fulmer and his teammates return to action Wednesday, March 13 with a non-conference game against UAH. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at Kermit A. Johnson Field.
