Sentencing set for man found guilty of Pelham murder

Shelby County Circuit Court Judge Dan Reeves is scheduled to sentence a Montgomery man on April 30 after a jury found the man guilty of murdering a construction foreman in Pelham in 2008.

On March 14, a jury found James Darrell Johnson guilty of killing Sherlin M. Vaughn at the construction site for the Pelham Aldi grocery store on July 29, 2008.

According to court documents, Johnson killed Vaughn “by picking him up over his head and slamming him to the ground three times” at the construction site, which was near the intersection of U.S. 31 and Valleydale Road in Pelham.

According to court documents, Reeves is scheduled to sentence Johnson at 8:30 a.m. on April 30.

Johnson has been in the custody of the Shelby County Jail since July 30, 2008, and currently is being held there awaiting his sentence.
