County under severe thunderstorm warning

Shelby County is now under a severe thunderstorm warning, along with Etowah and St. Clair counties, according to the National Weather Service.

A line of severe thunderstorms producing quarter-size hail and winds in excess of 70 miles per hour is crossing the county, moving east at 65 miles per hour, according to the NWS website.

The NWS reports Helena, Pelham, Alabaster, Chelsea and Montevallo are being impacted by the thunderstorms.

“These storms have a history of producing widespread wind damage. This is an extremely dangerous situation. See shelter now inside a sturdy structure, and stay away from windows,” the NWS stated.
