Falcons top UNC Pembroke in conference match

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The University of Montevallo baseball team defeated UNC Pembroke 6-3 in a Peach Belt Conference match March 18.

The Falcons (7-6 overall, 3-5 in Peach Belt Conference) won three singles’ matches and swept all three doubles’ matches against the Braves.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova defeated Mia Winterbottom of UNC Pembroke 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles’ match. Freshman Allison Howell fell to Leigh-Anne McAfee of UNC Pembroke 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 2 singles’ match.

Junior Haley Highfield defeated Hannah Herlocker of UNC Pembroke 6-4, 6-3 in the No. 3 singles’ match. Sophomore Anais Robert fell to Shelby Bickel of UNC Pembroke 7-6, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles’ match.

Freshman Juanita Ossa fell to Monica Espitia of UNC Pembroke 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 5 singles’ match. SeniorLauren Blair defeated Madeline DiNunzio of UNC Pembroke 6-3, 6-1 in the No. 6 singles’ match.

Polcerova and Robert defeated Winterbottom and Herlocker 8-6 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Howell and Highfield defeated McAfee and Bickel 8-6 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Blair and Ossa defeated DiNunzio and Johnson 8-4 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

The Falcons return to action Saturday, March 23 with a Peach Belt Conference match on the road at Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. at 9 a.m.
