Oak Mountain takes two at Mountain Brook tourney

The Oak Mountain Eagles won their first two games of the Mountain Brook tournament March 18.

The Eagles (12-8) held off Mountain Brook for a 9-6 victory in their first game of the day. Oak Mountain took a 9-0 lead after scoring seven runs in the top of the fifth. Mountain Brook scored six runs in the fifth, but was unable to erase the deficit.

Wesley Nail pitched four and two-thirds innings allowing five runs on five hits with two strikeouts and four walks.

Connor O’Brien went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Heath Quinn went 1-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Barrett Gossett was 2-for-3 with a double.

Oak Mountain followed with a 9-4 win over Clay-Chalkville. Clay tied the game 4-4 in the top of the fourth, but the Eagles went on to score five unanswered runs for the 9-4 victory.

Elliott Smith pitched two innings in relief allowing two hits with a strikeout in the win.

Justin Hoyt led the Eagles batting 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. EJ Alsbrooks went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. O’Brien added a 3-for-4 performance with a double and a RBI.
