Pelham finishes 1-4 at Florida/Alabama Challenge

The Pelham Panthers baseball team finished the 2013 Florida/Alabama Baseball Challenge in Tallahassee, Fla. with a 1-4 record March 18-21.

The Panthers opened the tournament with a 2-1 extra-inning loss to North Florida Christian March 18. North Florida scored a run in the ninth inning to take the win. Conner Radcliff took the loss allowing one run on a hit with two walks. Thomas Lowery allowed one run on five this with 10 strikeouts and a walk in the no-decision. Zach King and Fletcher Johnson each hit a double to lead Pelham.

Pelham fell to Lincoln High School (Fla.) 11-6 on March 19. Aaron Anderson allowed six runs on two hits with five walks in the loss for the Panthers. Hunter Stovall led the way with a 3-for-3 effort with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Kolby Booth added a 2-for-2 performance with a double and two runs scored.

The Panthers dropped the first of two games they played March 20 when they fell to Wakulla High School (Fla.) 9-3. King pitched three innings in the loss while allowing one earned run on two hits with five walks. Johnson went 1-for-2 with a RBI to lead the Panthers. Jackson Pruitt added a 1-for-4 effort with a double and a run.

Pelham picked up their lone win of the tournament in a 3-0 shutout over Chiles High School (Fla.) in their second game March 20. Jack Pierce allowed only one hit in the shutout victory with four strikeouts and two walks. Stovall went 2-for-4 with a double while Pruitt added a 2-for-4 performance with a run scored.

The Panthers ended play in the Florida/Alabama Baseball Challenge with a 6-1 loss to Lincoln March 21. Sam Finnerty allowed four earned runs on nine hits with three strikeouts and two walks in the loss. Lowery went 2-for-3 to lead Pelham while King went 1-for-3 with a RBI. Fletcher Johnson scored a run while batting 1-for-3.
