Falcons drop women’s tennis match against BYU-Hawaii

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo women’s tennis team fell to BYU-Hawaii 9-0 in a non-conference match March 27.

The Falcons (7-8) dropped all six singles’ matches and all three doubles’ matches against BYU-Hawaii, which entered the match ranked No. 2 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s NCAA Division II national rankings.

Sophomore Niki Polcerova, the reigning Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week, fell to Annie Hwang of BYU-Hawaii in the No. 1 singles’ match. Polcerova, ranked No. 11 in the latest ITA NCAA Division II Southeast Region singles’ rankings, dropped the match 6-1, 6-0 against Hwang, who is ranked No. 1 among singles’ players in the ITA NCAA Division II West Region.

Junior Haley Highfield fell to the Seasiders’ Sherry Liu, who is ranked No. 2 in the ITA NCAA Division II West Region singles’ rankings, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 singles’ match.

Sophomore Anais Robert dropped the No. 3 singles’ match against Marietta Tuionetoa of BYU Hawaii 6-2, 6-0. Freshman Juanita Ossafell to Marika Kobayashi of BYU Hawaii 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 4 singles’ match.

Senior Lauren Blair fell to Sasha Ulbrichtova of BYU-Hawaii 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 5 singles’ match. Sophomore Meagan Stevens fell to Jade Griffin of BYU-Hawaii 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles’ match.

Polcerova and Robert fell to Hwang and Liu, the No. 1 doubles’ team in the latest ITA NCAA Division II West Region rankings, 8-0 in the No. 1 doubles’ match. Highfield and Howell fell to Tuionetoa and Kobayashi, the No. 2 ranked team in the ITA NCAA Division II West Region rankings, 8-2 in the No. 2 doubles’ match.

Blair and Ossa fell to Griffin and Ulbrichtova 8-2 in the No. 3 doubles’ match.

The Falcons return to action Thursday, March 28 with a non-conference match on the road at Fort Valley State University at 4 p.m. CST.
