The Alabaster Board of Education’s website could go live “as early as next week” Alabaster Interim School Superintendent Dr. Phillip Hammonds said on April 2.

The announcement came a little more than a month after the School Board voted to enter into a contract with the School in Sites company to develop the upcoming school district’s website.

Until the Alabastercityschools.org website goes live, the URL will redirect to the city school information section of Cityofalabaster.com.

The website will allow the School Board to post meeting dates, job openings and other information related to the Alabaster school system, Hammonds said. The website will also contain content from local media outlets related to the Alabaster School Board.

Currently, the School Board works with the city to distribute information through the city of Alabaster website.

School in Sites created and hosts websites for several other school systems in Alabama, such as the Hoover Board of Education, the Mobile County Board of Education and Madison City Schools.

In other business during its April 1 meeting, the Alabaster School Board also approved three new central office employees.

Michael Kortman, who currently is a staff accountant with the Jefferson County Board of Education, was hired as the Alabaster school system’s central office accounts payable accountant effective May 1.

Beth Emerson was hired as the Alabaster central school office payroll accountant effective May 1. Emerson currently is a payroll clerk and bookkeeper with the Hartselle City Board of Education.

Virginia Aycox was hired as an Alabaster central school office secretary effective April 15. Aycox currently is a secretary with the Shelby County Board of Education.
