AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo sophomore Madison Brown was named the Peach Belt Conference women’s track and field Athlete of the Week on April 2, earning the program’s first ever honor in its inaugural season in the process.

Brown was named the Field Athlete of the Week.

Brown won the javelin throw at the Emory University Classic, which stands as the first individual title for any Montevallo women’s track and field athlete in a field event.

With her fourth throw, the sophomore uncorked a 37.41 meter (122 feet, 9 inch) toss to win the event by more than two meters over second-place Nadia Araiinejad of UAH.

Brown’s throw is the longest in the Peach Belt Conference this season, sets a new school record and is less than three meters off the NCAA Division II provisional mark.

The Hoover, Ala. native also ran on the Falcons’ 3,200-meter relay team in the Emory University Classic, which finished sixth in the event.

Brown and her teammates return to action Friday, April 12 at the Mississippi College Open meet.

The Peach Belt Conference women’s track and field championship meet, hosted by Shorter University, will be held April 19-20.
