The Alabaster Board of Education will lay out the next steps in its search for a full-time school superintendent during an April 8 meeting at the Alabaster City Hall Annex building.

The meeting will come a little more than a week after the March 31 deadline to apply for the full-time superintendent position. The School Board received 16 applications for the spot, said Interim Alabaster School Superintendent Dr. Phillip Hammonds.

“The applications were submitted directly to our Board attorneys and are currently being organized and compiled in their offices,” Hammonds said on April 4. “As this upcoming Monday will be the board’s first opportunity to convene since the posting closed, we do plan to include an agenda item regarding updated information about the search and anticipated next steps.”

Alabaster BOE members previously said they planned to interview the top superintendent candidates through April, and will work to name the new superintendent by May 1.

Hammonds’ term as interim superintendent will end on June 30, and the person selected as the Alabaster school system’s full-time superintendent must be available to start no later than July 1. Hammonds said he is not one of the 16 candidates who applied for the full-time superintendent spot.

“(I) hope I am being of help to everyone in my role as interim superintendent during this time of transition,” Hammonds said.

The salary range for the full-time superintendent will be between $150,000-$170,000, but the number is negotiable “based on the successful candidate’s experience and proven track record of success,” according to a job description approved by the School Board.
