A man charged with killing and dismembering cats at the University of Montevallo in 2012 was fired from a position with the Madison YMCA, according to a report from the Huntsville-based WHNT television station.

In October 2012, police arrested 20-year-old Christian Slaton and charged him with allegedly dismembering, skinning and hanging the dead cats up for display on the University of Montevallo campus, according to court documents.

Slaton was arrested by University of Montevallo Police and charged on Nov. 6, 2012. Slaton posted bond from the Shelby County Jail the same day in the amount of $20,000.

Slaton was suspended from the University of Montevallo Oct. 31, 2012.

According to the WHNT report, the Madison YMCA fired Slaton on April 3 after his charges were brought to the attention of YMCA staff members. The report did not list Slaton’s position with the YMCA.

Slaton appeared in Shelby County Circuit Court for a hearing on Feb. 6, and his case has been bound over to a grand jury.
