The Alabaster Board of Education’s inaugural website and Twitter account will go live at 9 a.m. on April 9, board members announced during an April 8 meeting at the Alabaster Municipal Annex.

“It’s still a work in progress, but a lot of information is on there already,” said Alabaster Interim School Superintendent Dr. Phillip Hammonds.

The website will be Alabasterschools.org, but visitors can also access it by typing in Alabasterschools.com, Hammonds said. The School Board also will launch its Twitter account – Alabasterk12 – alongside the new website.

The School Board originally intended to make the website Alabastercityschools.org, but recently discovered domain name was already taken, Hammonds said.

In addition to links to the individual Alabaster school websites, Alabasterschools.org will also include information on Alabaster school system job openings, meeting dates, links to school-related news items and more.

“Check it every day, there will be new information,” Hammonds said, noting the new site “looks very professional for Alabaster.”

The Alabaster school system’s first webmaster will be Thompson High School teacher Brooke Dennis, who has helped set up Alabasterschools.org over the past several weeks.

“Mrs. Dennis has been the one to get the site up and going,” Hammonds said.

During the April 8 meeting, the School Board approved Hammonds’ recommendation to pay Dennis a supplement to her salary to serve as the Alabaster school system’s district webmaster from May 1-June 30.

“When July 1 comes, I do encourage you to look at that being a supplement that will continue,” Hammonds told the School Board.
