Director Dutcha Lawson has formed the Columbiana Public Library Teen Advisory Board to come up with ideas, plan and help with events for children.

What better way to know what a young child would like to do than to ask a teenager who was just that age a few years ago!

Lawson asked the media specialists at Columbiana Middle and Shelby County High Schools for potential board members who have a love of books and children.

The idea was met with great enthusiasm and soon the Teen Advisory Board was formed: Joci Smith, Tyler Morris, Faryn Fryer, Kobe Martin, Landon Bentley, Lakelyn Bentley, Wade White and Raven Webb.

The board volunteers their time for meetings as well as planning and attending programs. One of the first and hugely successful programs was the Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Party. Children along with Lawson and the board dressed up in Dr. Seuss hats, played games, read stories and ate a huge birthday cake.

Spring will continue with great programs at the library. Storytime with Jennie, every Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. has exciting programs planned for April and May: Spring has Sprung; Fun at the Library; Happy, Sad, Love Joy; Rooten Tooten Cowboys; May Flowers; Mother’s Day; Let’s Go Camping; Fun Stories and Surprise! Miss Shelby County Jamie Brooks gave a Princess Tea Party on April 6.

The Iron Lady movie with free popcorn will be April 11 from 10 a.m. to noon and Downton Abbey Mondays are from 1-3 p.m.

Regular programs are continuing: Bridge Club@Bernie’s every Friday 9:15 a.m.-1 p.m.; Quilt for Kids, the second Saturday of every month from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.; Loose Stitches Knitting every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m.-noon; and the Book Group, open to all, April 23, begins at 6 p.m.

Come to the Library and have fun this spring!
