Alabaster’s First United Methodist Church will fill its Restore building with items ranging from 19^th-century German Bibles to Wii Fit devices before auctioning them off on April 19.

The event will begin with a silent auction at 5:30 p.m., and will be followed by a live auction starting at 7 p.m. The Restore building – a former Winn Dixie supermarket – is located at 128 Market Center Drive in Alabaster.

“We have a very large amount of really valuable items,” said First United Methodist Executive Ministry Assistant Jane Cornelius. “Our church members have just donated everything. We will be using all of the Restore facility.”

Among the items included in the auction are Peter Max and LeRoy Neiman lithographs, a Chi Chi Rodriguez signed and numbered print, a 1970s Picasso painting and an 1899 school desk. Dozens of items ranging from furniture and jewelry to exercise equipment and fine China will fill out the auction.

The church also will auction off services such as classes at the Alabaster YMCA and trips to area beaches and lakes.

All money raised during the auction will help the church pay down the debt on the Restore building, which is used to host worship services and the church’s youth programs. Restore also houses Manna Ministries, which hands out food and provides worship services to those in need every Saturday.

“We have really only seen that building as one of our primary ways to reach out to the community,” said First United Methodist Church Pastor Brian Erickson. “We are not only trying to just pay off bills, but we are trying to free ourselves up so we can better serve the community.”
