Oak Mountain wins county tennis tourney

PELHAM –The Oak Mountain Eagles tennis team captured the Shelby County boys’ tennis championship with 11 final victories April 10 at the Pelham Tennis Center.

The tournament started April 3, but had most of the championship matches delayed to April 8.

The Eagles scored 42 points after action was suspended April 3, and sealed the county championship with 12 points on the second day of competition. Preston Touliatos led Oak Mountain with a straight set 6-0, 6-0 victory over Griffin Oaks of Briarwood on the No. 1 singles championship match. Kyle Ehlers, Kody Ehlers, J.K. Keasler, Brian Deason, Trevan Anderson, Alex Dobson and Trevor Wilson all won their single championship matches.

Touliatos and Kyle Ehlers won the No. 1 doubles championship match with Kody Ehlers and Kealser winning the No. 2 doubles championship match.

Thompson’s Jered Pendleton-Cowsar and Clay Anthony took the No. 3 doubles championship.

While Oak Mountain sealed up the county title after the first day of play, four teams battled for second. The Westminster School of Oak Mountain Knights took second in three single championships to finish with 21 points for the runner-up position in the team standings.

Indian Springs and Thompson tied for third with 20 points each and Briarwood finished fifth with 19 points. Pelham finished the tournament with four points and Chelsea was scoreless in the tournament.
