CLINTON, Miss. – University of Montevallo senior Kaley Glover captured the 5,000-meter run individual title while sophomore Madison Brown took home the javelin throw individual title while leading the Falcons’ women’s track and field team in the Mississippi College Open meet April 12.

Glover finished the 5,000-meter run with a time of 18:54.56, which helped her edge teammate Katie Vanover for the individual title in the event. Vanover posted a time of 20:29.86 in the event.

Brown won the javelin throw individual title with her toss of 114 feet, 5 inches, which helped her edge second-place finisher Mechelle Adams of William Carey by more than 20 feet.

“It was another great day for the track and field team,” said Montevallo women’s track and field coach Tommy  Barksdale. “We competed hard today. The athletes gave their best effort in every event. We couldn’t be more proud of the day we had heading into the Peach Belt Conference championships.”

Other top finishes by Montevallo women’s track and field athletes in the meet included a second-place finish by junior In-Mi Matsunaga in the 1,500-meter run. Matsunaga posted a season-best time of 5:05.96 in the event.

Sophomore Brianna Guzinski finished runner-up in the women’s long jump competition with her leap of 16 feet, 8.75 inches. Guzinski also finished third in the triple jump event with her jump of 33 feet, 8.75 inches.

Junior Shay Bonner finished runner-up in both the 100-meter hurdles and 400-meter hurdles events. Bonner posted a time of 15.54 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles, while completing the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.76.

Senior Haley Evans finished third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:23.39.

The Falcons’ 1,600-meter relay team, which included Bonner, Hatter, Brown and freshman Connor Dixon, finished third in the event after posting a season-best time of 4:19.36.

The Falcons will return to action in the Peach Belt Conference championship meet, which will be held April 19-20 at Shorter University in Rome, Ga.
