MONTEVALLO – Locals will have a chance to learn about the University of Montevallo’s variety of trees during an April 20 walking tour.

Herschel Hale, a forester, will lead the tour, which is sponsored by the Montevallo Chamber of Commerce.

Hale will lead a walking tour of the University of Montevallo campus that features 32 trees from the guide, “Trunk Show,” which was published by UM. Tour participants will also learn about caring for trees in the summer, including how to combat heat and drought.

The tour will begin at 10 a.m. at the Chamber of Commerce office at 845 Valley St. The Chamber’s walking tours are part of the Alabama Department of Tourism’s April Walking Tours that are conducted across the state.

Previous tours include Civil Rights history with Kathlyn Lathion on April 6 and the Montevallo Art Show with a stop at Parnell Memorial Library on April 13. The final tour, “The History Behind the UM Ghost Stories,” will be April 27 and led by Kathleen Lowe.

If weather is a concern, call 665-1519 to see if the tour has been cancelled.
