The thunderstorms that moved through Shelby County early April 19 have caused multiple playoff series to be postponed due to wet field conditions.
The AHSAA Class 6A first round playoff series between the Thompson Warriors and the Spain Park Jaguars have been delayed to April 20. The doubleheader previously scheduled for Friday has been rescheduled for April 20 starting at 11 a.m. with the second game following 30 minutes after, according to Warriors’ head coach Pat Hamrick. If a third game is necessary in the best-of-three series, it will be played on April 22 at 5 p.m.
The Vincent Yellow Jackets were scheduled to host Horseshoe Bend in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs, but the series has also been postponed until April 20. No game time has been announced.
The Briarwood Christian Lions’ Class 5A playoff series against Chilton County has also been postponed. The Lions will take the field April 20 for a doubleheader scheduled at 3 p.m. If a third game is necessary, it will be played on Monday at a time to be determined.
The Cornerstone Christian Chargers were also scheduled for a playoff doubleheader April 19, which has also been postponed. The Chargers will host Ashford in a doubleheader scheduled for 11 a.m. April 20 in the first round of the AISA playoffs.
While those four series have been postponed, baseball will still be played tonight. Coosa Valley will host Northside in an AISA playoff doubleheader scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
