Falcons ranked No. 28 in latest College Baseball Lineup poll

MONTEVALLO – The University of Montevallo baseball team is ranked No. 28 in the latest College Baseball Lineup NCAA Division II poll, which was released April 21.

The Falcons, who completed a season sweep of the University of North Alabama and took two-of-three games in a Peach Belt Conference series on the road at the University of North Georgia, dropped one spot in the national poll.

Montevallo (29-16 overall, 15-12 in Peach Belt Conference) has been ranked in the national poll for four consecutive weeks.

The Falcons opened the week with a 10-4 win on the road April 17 at North Alabama, completing a three-game sweep of the Lions this season. Montevallo defeated North Georgia 6-1 in each of the first two games in a conference series over the weekend before dropping the series finale 6-5 in extra innings.

The Falcons are one of four Peach Belt Conference schools ranked among the top 30 teams nationally in the poll.

USC Aiken remained steady at No. 3 in the most recent poll. Montevallo took two-of-three games against the Pacers in a conference series in late March.

Lander University moved up one spot to No. 11 in the national poll. The Falcons took one-of-three games against the Bearcats in a conference series last month.

UNC Pembroke, which dropped eight spots in the national poll, is ranked No. 18 in the latest poll. Montevallo took two-of-three games against the Braves in a conference series in February.

The Falcons own a 7-7 mark against teams ranked in the top 25 in the poll. Montevallo swept a home-and-away series against UAH, which is ranked No. 15 in the most recent poll, and dropped a hard-fought three-game series against top-ranked Delta State University in early February.

The Falcons return to action Wednesday, April 24 as they host the University of West Alabama in their final mid-week game of the season at Kermit A. Johnson Field. Montevallo, which is undefeated (12-0) in mid-week games this season, is looking to cap off a season sweep of the Tigers after defeating West Alabama 2-1 on the road earlier this month.

The Falcons will honor a four-man senior class, including Andrew HillAustin DubberlyMichael Shreves andDevon Davis, before the game. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.

Montevallo closes out Peach Belt Conference play with a three-game series on the road at Georgia College this weekend. First pitch in the series opener is set for Saturday, April 27 at noon CST.
