INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – University of Montevallo junior Conner Godsey became the first ever men’s golf student-athlete to be selected to participate as an individual in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region tournament when the field was released April 26.

Godsey is one of four individuals who will participate in the Southeast Region tournament in addition to the 10 teams participating in the tournament, which will take place May 5-8 at the Mission Inn Resort and Club in Howey-In-The-Hills, Fla.

“This is a great accomplishment for Conner, and for our program to be recognized,” said Montevallo men’s golf coach Justin Pratt. “Our goal was to be there as a team, but having an individual that has played well and worked hard for it, is rewarding as well. Conner will play well and I’m really proud of him because he has earned it.”

Godsey will participate in a practice round at the region tournament Sunday, May 5. First round play will begin Monday, May 6 at 6:30 a.m. CST.

The second round is set for Tuesday, May 7 with a 6:30 a.m. CST start, followed by the final round Wednesday, May 8 with a 6:30 a.m. CST start.

The top three teams and the top two individuals not with a team from each regional (regardless of region) will advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship tournament, which will take place May 20-24 at Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.

Godsey built his credentials for a berth in the region tournament with a fifth-place finish in the Peach Belt Conference tournament April 20-21 at Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Ga.

Godsey, who led the team with a 2-under par 70 in the final round, paced the Falcons with a three-round total of 3-over par 219. Godsey, who finished with six birdies in the final round, finished in a four-way tie for fifth overall in individual standings.

Godsey was named to the conference’s All-Tournament team after the conference tournament.

Godsey was named second team All-Peach Belt Conference following the regular season.

Godsey played in all 21 rounds for Montevallo this season and led the Falcons with a 74.05 stroke average, which placed him seventh in the Peach Belt Conference.

The junior from Rogersville, Ala., won two events this season, the Falcons’ Full Moon Invitational and the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate in February.

Godsey fired a 6-under par 136 in the Full Moon Invitational to help the Falcons claim the team championship. He shot a 5-under par 66 in the final round of the tournament, which tied him with several others as the fourth-lowest round of the season in the Peach Belt Conference.

Godsey carded a 2-under par 140 in the Spring Kick-Off Intercollegiate to claim a one-stroke victory.

Godsey finished the season with three top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes during the season.
