Pelham advances past Northridge

The Pelham Panthers boys’ soccer team advanced to the second round of the Class 6A playoffs with a 1-0 victory over Northridge April 26.

Pelham’s Amilcar Canas scored the only goal of the game with two minutes left in the first overtime period with an assist from Misael Espinoza.

The Panthers (10-13-2) held Northridge (17-3) to one shot on goal with Andrue Ham picking up the shutout for Pelham.

The win over Northridge is the first for the Pelham boys’ soccer program since 2000. The Panthers will take on No. 1 Oak Mountain at 7 p.m. on April 30.
