Alabaster’s annual CityFest at Municipal Park will kick off a little differently this year.

At 8 a.m. on the day of the June 1 festival, dozens of runners will line up at the Thompson High School football stadium for the inaugural CityFest 5K Fun Run, which will begin and end at the stadium.

To register for the 5K, visit Active.com and search for “CityFest.” Day-of registration and race packet pickup will begin at 7 a.m. in the Thompson Intermediate School gym at 10019 Highway 119.

All race packets will include a race T-shirt.

Awards will go to the overall male and female winners, Masters 40 and older, Grand Masters 50 and older and to the top three in each age group: 14-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and older.

Race results will be available online at Trakshak.com, Run42k.com and Birminghamtrackclub.com.

For more information contact Jamia Alexander-Williams at jamia_w@yahoo.com or Ginda McDonald at gina@ginamcdonaldlaw.com.

The race will serve to kickoff the daylong CityFest event at Municipal Park, which will feature country artist Josh Turner and Ed Kowalczyk, the former frontman for the alternative rock band Live.

The event will also feature several more live outdoor concerts, kids’ activities, games and vendors.
