The fifth annual Music on Main Street in Columbiana has all the makings of a big summer block party: music, hot dogs, snow cones and, of course, tunes.

The event takes place most Friday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. from June 7 through Aug. 30.

“We have a good little turnout,” said Susan Conn of Main Street Florist. Her shop is part of the Columbiana Merchants and Professionals Association that sponsors the event.

This alcohol-free, family event is free to the public and has grown “tremendously,” said Conn. The party began with 50 to 100 attendees and now brings up to 1,000 depending on the musical guest.

Both ends of Main Street are blocked, leaving plenty of room for mingling and even a dance area, where line dance groups enjoy gathering.

“We have dancing in the street,” Conn said. She added seeing everyone getting together and enjoying themselves is her favorite part of the event.

Merchants are often open during the event. If not, there’s still a good time to be had by attendees.

“Even if (the shops) aren’t open, they’ll window shop while the breaks are going with the music,” Conn said. “It’s really a fun time.”

The line-up is set through Aug. 2. The remaining Friday evenings are open.
