Odell E. Anderson, age 90, of Calera, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert Dewitt and Opal Anderson and special brother-in-law, Buck Hobgood. After retirement, Odell enjoyed being employed by Wal-Mart (Pelham and Calera stores) as a greeter where he touched many lives.

His survivors include his wife of 66 years, Audrey Anderson; daughters, Sharon Verdel (Joseph), Janet Fred (Darvin) and Carol Wallace (Jim); sons, Michael Anderson (Jan) and Mark Anderson (Glenda); sister, Elaine Hobgood; brothers, Robert Anderson (Dorothy), Delbert Anderson (Love) and Tommy Anderson (Mary); grandchildren, Jennifer Swanson (Joey), Kristy Voraritskul (Micah), Kelli Chord (D. J.), Tracy Long (Todd), Amber Howe (Josh), Karyn McCormick (Kenny), Derek Anderson (Rachel), Jared Anderson (Jenn), Jamie Cain (Conrad), Phillip Anderson (Kristy), Ryan Verdel, Heather Mashburn (Jacob) and Dustin Anderson; 17 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews.

The family received friends at the Alabaster Church of God from 12-2 p.m. on May 8 with a funeral service that followed at 2 p.m. Interment was in Jefferson Memorial Gardens, Trussville. Pastors Ken Stroup and Micah Voraritskul officiated. Charter Funeral Home directed.
