Lena Oleta Jeter, age 98, of Montevallo, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2013, in Birmingham. She was born in Thomasville.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Ashley Collins Jeter Sr. They had three children.

She attended Alabama College and graduated in 1935 with a degree in secretarial science. She was a longtime resident of Montevallo for 72 years and employed by Alabama College as a secretary for 35 years. Lena was a member of University Baptist Church.

Lena will be remembered by her children, Ashley Jeter Jr. (Melba) of Pensacola, Fla.; Sara Carter Pankaskie of Quincy, Fla.; and Beth Bishop (Larry) of Irondale. She is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held on May 6 at 2 p.m. at Montevallo Cemetery with Rev. John Harris officiating. Relatives and friends were invited to a celebration of life for Todd at University Baptist Church immediately following the graveside service at Montevallo Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Todd’s memory to Alzheimer’s Association or Habitat For Humanity.
