Nellie Marie Nannini, age 67, died in Alabaster on May 15, 2013, after a brief illness. Nellie was born November 19, 1945, and raised in the Dogwood Community near Montevallo. She graduated from Montevallo High School and then earned her B.S. degree in physical education at the University of Montevallo. She taught Physical Education at Jemison High School and worked many years at Alabaster Industries. She retired in December of 2012 from the Shelby County Board of Education following ten years of service at Calera Elementary School as a member of the custodial staff.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mike and Bonnie Nannini; brother, Marshall Nannini; sisters, Nelladean Nannini and Ramona Hancock; and brother-in-law, Howard Hancock. She is survived by her brother, Alan Nannini; sister-in-law, Melissa Nannini; nieces, Laura Nannini and Anna Nannini Smitherman; nephew, Mike Hancock; and great-nephew, Alec Hancock.

Nellie was an avid softball player and loved all sports, especially the University of Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball. A memorial service will be held at Charter Funeral Home on May 18 at 3 p.m. with a visitation one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Reverend Todd Burr officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made in Nellie’s name to the Shelby County Humane Society, 381 McDow Road, Columbiana, AL 35051. Charter Funeral Home directing.
