Peoples named Helena High principal

The Shelby County Board of Education named Jay Peoples principal of Helena High School during its May 16 meeting.

Peoples has served as principal of Chelsea High School for the last five years. He said he hopes to help make Helena High, which is set to open in August 2014, an “innovative, world-class, student-oriented high school we can be proud of.”

Peoples has worked in public education for 21 years. During that time, he has served as a teacher and/or administrator at every level of education: elementary, middle, high, junior college and college level.

He has a bachelor of arts in English from Lee University. He also acquired a master of arts in English and a master of arts in administration and educational leadership certification from the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
