Women of AT&T at an event in downtown Birmingham on May 15 announced the organization is donating $1,900 to the Shelby County-based BackPack Buddies, a program of Vineyard Family Services.

The donation consists of $1,000 from the Women of AT&T Alabama Chapter supplemented by $900 in individual contributions from the chapter’s members.

“BackPack Buddies is a great program that provides much-needed nutrition to at-risk children,” said Kate Deloach, president of the Women of AT&T Alabama Chapter. “We are pleased to be able to support such a worthwhile cause.”

Millions of children in the United States count on the free and reduced meals available at school to alleviate their hunger. During weekends and holidays, the BackPack Buddies Program helps meet their needs by providing children ages 5-12 with nutritious and easy-to-prepare food that they can take home when other resources aren’t always available.

“BackPack buddies is a great program that really makes a difference in the lives of children living in poverty,” said Stephanie Grissom, program director at Vineyard Family Services. “We count on the generous support from organizations like Women of AT&T to make this program possible. We are grateful for their support.”

“The Women of AT&T do great work, and this is just one example of how they give back to our communities,” said Fred McCallum, president of AT&T Alabama. “ I am so proud of what these employees are doing to support this worthwhile project.”
