Helena council donates $18,800 to local schools and charities

Helena leaders donated $18,800 raised during this year’s Buck Creek Festival to local schools and charities during a June 3 City Council meeting.

Over the past 12 years, the city has donated a total of nearly $200,000 in Buck Creek Festival donations and proceeds to local organizations.

SafeHouse of Shelby County, which provides services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault, received a $10,400 donation from the city during the council meeting. The money was raised during the festival’s annual Buck Creek Duck Race.

The Helena Police Explorers received $780, the Explorer’s shuttle fund received $660 and Helena Elementary, Helena Intermediate, Helena Middle and Pelham High schools each received $550 donations.

The Helena Public Library received a $500 donation, the Helena Fire Explorers received $450, Christ Community Church received $250, the Helena Belles received $220, the Church of Cahaba Bend received $200 and Helena United Methodist Church received $100.
