SCBOE honors First Year Teachers of the Year

The Shelby County Board of Education recognized the First Year Teachers of the Year during its June 6 meeting at the Central Office in Columbiana.

Superintendent Randy Fuller presented awards to Allison Bengston and Erin Golden.

Allison Bengston taught fourth grade at Chelsea Intermediate School last year and will be teaching fourth grade at Forest Oaks Elementary next year. She received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the University of Alabama.

Erin Golden teaches English 9 and Pre-AP English 9 at Calera High School. She received a bachelor’s degree in English literature and a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She served on the Shelby Count English/Language Arts Curriculum Team and the school’s Global Scholars Assessment Committee.
