Wilsonville Elementary School’s new library will be named after an old friend – former Principal Rosemary Liveoak.

Current WES Principal Maria Tidmore submitted a written request to the Shelby County Board of Education to name the library after Liveoak, and it was approved during the Board’s June 6 meeting in Columbiana.

“We wanted to do something special for her to show our appreciation for her 39 years of service,” Tidmore said.

Tidmore said the new library will be worthy of its name. The school’s former gymnasium will be converted into a library, and the circulation desk will be made to look like an oak tree with canopy overhead.

“It’s going to be out of this world,” she said. “It will go right along with that name.”

Tidmore said the library construction should be completed in time for an open house in mid-August.
