HOOVER— Jefferson State Community College launched a newly reconstructed website earlier this year to modernize for the digital age.

Spokesperson David Bobo said the new website will be better and easier to use for the community and students.

The new site will be easier to navigate and showcase what the college has to offer, Bobo said.

The website had not been updated for about four years and needed a complete overhaul, Bobo said. The navigation was changed, new features were added and social media was incorporated.

“The site puts a lot of services at your fingertips,” Bobo said. “Our old site didn’t utilize social media at all, and for today’s world that’s a must.”

The site has a section titled “Get Social With Us” and offers links to the college’s social media pages like Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.

The site also added an “emergency alerts” button, which allows students and members of the community to receive emergency closing updates to their phones and social media, Bobo said.

The new site also provides quick links to apply, register, graduate and get a transcript. The transcript button allows students to easily obtain their transcript to transfer to a four-year college, Bobo said.

“The process to receive a transcript on the old site could take as long as a few months,” Bobo said.

The front page also makes it easier to find a class schedule and access the Statewide Transfer and Articulation Reporting System transfer agreement.

STARS transfer agreement guarantees 100 percent of academic credits to transfer for students who follow the STARS course guide, Bobo said. The agreement is among all two-year and four-year public colleges and universities in the state.

The campus has also worked with Google Maps to provide updated floor plans for all buildings at every campus, Bobo said.

“The updated floor plans will allow students to easily find their class directly from their smart phone,” Bobo said.
