FROM STAFF REPORTS

Due to the forecast of a 100 percent chance of heavy and possibly flooding rains today,  the American Village has canceled its Independence Day celebration, according to a press release. The American Village depends on using grassy fields for parking for thousands of visitors, which makes it  necessary to cancel the event.  Such forecasted weather conditions in the parking fields and outdoor venues would pose a threat to the personal safety and property of visitors, according to the statement. The American Village will be closed to the public Thursday and Friday and will resume its regular public schedule at 10 a.m. on Monday.
