The Alabaster School System will not require student uniforms for the upcoming school year, and currently are not discussing the matter for future years.

The school system’s website was built on a template, and originally included a tab labeled “uniforms” when it was revamped in early July. The tab should have been labeled “dress code,” according to Alabaster School Board President Adam Moseley.

“There happened to be a tab that said uniforms when it should have said dress code,” Moseley said, noting school board members heard from several concerned parents after seeing the “uniform” tab. “We are not talking about uniforms for the upcoming school year. Things are going to be the same as they have been.”

After hearing concerns about the “uniform” tab, Alabaster City Schools officials clarified the matter on the school system’s Facebook page.

Moseley said the topic hasn’t even been discussed for future years.

“It hasn’t even been brought up,” Moseley said. “As a board, we’ve got a lot more significant things to discuss right now.”
