CALERA – For wine, food, music, dancing and more, join the Vizzini Farms Winery in Calera this Saturday, July 20, for their monthly wine and music night, which will begin at 6 p.m. and last until about 10 p.m.

This month’s theme, according to owner Tom Vizzini, is “all-American cookout,” with the chefs cooking up a range of American dishes including hamburgers, hotdogs and Texas caviar made of black-eyed peas, whole kernel corn, black beans, onions, bell pepper, cilantro and dressing.

Vizzini said about 200-350 people usually come to these monthly music nights, and he said you can either reserve a table by calling the winery ahead of time or you can bring your own blankets and lawn chairs and tailgate. There is no cost to reserve a table, but there is a $5 cover charge to enter the gate, which goes to the band. Hotdogs will cost $4, plates around $7-$8 and wine can be bought by the glass or bottle, he said.

Performing at this month’s gathering is the local Living Dreams Band, which Vizzini describes as “a five-piece band with vocals that plays jazz rhythms, blues, some pop songs and dance music.”

Living Dreams has performed at Vizzini Farms many times before.

“There’s not a whole lot of live music in the area,” said Willie Jennings, a member of the band who resides in Pelham. “(Vizzini Farms) has this once a month, and everyone kind of looks forward to going around the corner or down the street, less than 5 or 10 miles away (from their houses). A lot of times in the Birmingham area you have to go to Birmingham for entertainment. (At Vizzini Farms) you get entertainment locally.”

Vizzini said his favorite part about these monthly outings is watching everyone dance.

“There’s a lot of dancing that goes on,” Vizzini said. “It gives everyone a chance to let their hair down once a month.”

Vizzini Farms Winery is located at 800 Shelby County 87 in Calera. For more information or to reserve a table, call the winery at 205-685-0655.
