COLUMBIANA — Cornerstone Christian School will be hosting a football camp July 25 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the school’s football field.

The camp, which will be held in conjunction with the Columbiana Youth Football League, takes a more laid-back approach than the more traditional intense summer football camp.

Cornerstone head coach Tim Smith said the event was meant to educate, but also entertain.

“(We) just want to show the fundamentals and have fun,” he said. “There might be one (player attend), there might be 100. We just thought we’d put one on.”

The camp will specialize in showing younger players, ages 7-12 specifically, football basics. Members of the Cornerstone coaching staff and varsity squad will lead the campers through various position drills, such as the proper mechanics of throwing a pass.

“We’ll make sure they know to play, you’ve got to have fun,” Smith said. “(They’ll) have stations with each coach.”

In addition to members on the current staff and team, former players and coaches, such as former Samford Bulldog and CCS assistant coach Jermaine Livingston, will be on hand to help campers.

In addition to creating a more relaxed atmosphere, Smith said the Cornerstone camp would be held at night for a number of reasons. The temperatures will keep players as cool as possible, and parents will havemore time to bring campers and then stay and watch.

The cost of the camp is $10, and will be held in the gym in case of rain. For more information, contact Smith at 966-6304.
