First, on Tuesday, Aug. 6, there’s the National Night-Out celebration from 6-8 p.m. at Lucky’s parking lot. The Town of Wilton, City of Montevallo and Shelby County Sheriff’s Department have joined together offering you an opportunity to meet and thank those who keep us safe; those behind the badges.

The Hunter Lawley Band will play from 5–8 p.m. and there will be activities for adults and children with games and door prizes along with free hot dogs and drinks.

Then, on every Friday in Wilton, and on two Saturdays in Montevallo, free outdoor movies are offered. “Dolphin Tale” is showing on Aug. 2 and 3, and “Oz: The Great and Powerful” on Aug. 23 and 24. Bring the family along with folding chairs, or blankets. Movies begin at 8 p.m. If raining, movies will be canceled.

“Dolphin Tale” is a movie the whole family will love. It was inspired by the true story of Winter, a dolphin, caught in a crab trap, and rescued by 11-year-old Sawyer. Winter’s tail was lost in the accident leaving him no survival techniques, but through the devotion and efforts of Sawyer, friends, a marine biologist, and an expert in prostheses, Winter’s future becomes much brighter. Stars are Harry Connick, Jr., Ashley Judd, Nathan Gamble, Kris Kristofferson, Cozi Zuehlsdorff, Morgan Freeman. Winter is played by himself — the dolphin in the true story.

As Disney Studios describes “Oz the Great and Powerful”: “Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz. At first he thinks he’s hit the jackpot-fame and fortune are his for the taking. That all changes, however, when he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late.”

The Park and Recreation Board sponsors the Montevallo movie nights.
