Billy Joe Herron, 71, of Calera, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, in Alabaster. He was a Deacon in the First Baptist Church of Alabaster and a veteran of the U. S. Army.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mable H. Herron. He is also survived by his daughter, Jennifer Zeimet (Kevin); son, Kris Herron (Vickie); brothers, Alfred Herron (Barbara), Jimmy Herron and Terry Herron (Diane); sister-in-law, Durene Herron; and three grandchildren, Maggie Joe, Palmer and Georgie; along with many special friends and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Helen Herron; and his brother, Lacey Herron.

Visitation will be at First Baptist Church of Alabaster on Aug. 20 from 5:30–8 p.m. Billy Joe will lay-in-state on Aug. 21 from 10–11 a.m. with the service to follow at 11 a.m. Services will be officiated by Dr. Steve Andrews and Rev. Mike Byars. Burial will be in Alabama National Cemetery at 12:30 p.m. with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be sent to First Baptist Church of Alabaster, 903 3rd Avenue N. W., Alabaster, AL 35007.
