Making the cut

It’s hard to find a restaurant that manages to mingle fine dining with football without missing a step. However, Shula’s — located in the newly-remodeled Hyatt Regency Birmingham-Wynfrey Hotel — pulls it off with panache, resulting in a dining experience quite different than the norm.
Starla Andrews, the restaurant’s head coach, or general manager, said Shula’s is “an all-American steakhouse,” originally founded by legendary National Football League head coach Don Shula. Shula holds the records for most wins all-time with 347 and is the architect of the only perfect season in NFL history with the 1972 Miami Dolphins.
Shula’s is known for their award-winning Shula Cut steaks. The cut is based on 10 specifications, including flavor, appearance, marbling, consistency, tenderness and uniformity, designed to make sure that diners receive the best steaks possible.
