Lou Ann Dawkins, age 64, of Shelby, passed away on Aug. 24, 2013, at her residence. She was born in Sylacauga on Oct. 8, 1948, the daughter of the late Veren “Pete” Jones and the late Sarah Ethel Merrell Jones. She was a retired inspector in the textile industry.

She is survived by husband, Edwin Dawkins of Shelby; sisters, Fannie Robinson (Charles) of Columbiana and Samantha Ray (Ernest) of Thorsby; nephews, William Bart Dorminey of Jemison, Bryan Russell Dorminey of Jemison, Jay Edward Dorminey of Jemison, Jerry Eugene Jones of Shelby, Benjamin D. Robinson of Columbiana and Steve Robinson of Shelby; nieces, Shelley J. Anderson of Jemison, Rachel A. Dorminey of Thorsby and Donna K. Robinson of Columbiana; 10 great-nieces; and six great-nephews.

She is preceded in death by parents, Veren “Pete” Jones and Sarah Ethel Jones; and a brother-in-Law, William Dorminey.

Visitation was held on Aug. 25 from 6-8 p.m. at Ellison-Cleckler Funeral Home in Clanton. Funeral services were held on Aug. 26 at 11 a.m. from Bethlehem Baptist Church in Shelby with Rev. Donnell Brown, Rev. Richard Horton and Rev. Rodger Hamaker officiating. The body lay-in-state one hour prior to the services at the church. Burial followed in the Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery in Shelby.
