Calera dominates Holt on the road

The Calera Eagles opened up the 2013 season with a bang, crushing the Holt Ironmen 69-0 on the road Aug. 30.

Ronnie Clark opened up the scoring for the Eagles when he kept it for a rushing touchdown. The extra point was good, and the Eagles led, 7-0.

The defense chipped in next, as Tyler Harrell recorded a pick-six to put the Eagles up by another score.

Clark then hit Jordan Bishop for the next three scores before recording another rushing touchdown. The score at the end of the first quarter was 27-0 in favor of Calera.

All starters were removed in the second quarter, and the younger players looking to gain experience took over.

Ty Evans recorded a rushing touchdown, as did Trez Harris at the end of the second quarter to make it 55-0 at the half.

In the second half, the quarters were shortened to five minutes apiece. Ty Evans hit Kyle Harrell for a touchdown pass, and Jeramy Dozier ran it in for a touchdown to cap of the scoring for the night at 69 points, giving the win to the Eagles.

Clark led the team passing, going 6-for-7 for 90 yards and three touchdowns. Bishop led all receivers with four receptions for 83 yards. Calera totaled 372 yards of total offense.
The Eagles will return home to face Dora Sept. 6.
