FROM STAFF REPORTS
MONTEVALLO – The Montevallo men’s soccer team took the field Sept. 10 looking to extend their perfect start to the season. However, they were unable to start the year with three straight wins, as the University of West Alabama Tigers came into Varsity Field and were able to take a 1-0 victory from the Falcons.
The first half did not yield any goals, as stiff defense was the calling card of each squad. The two teams were each able to manufacture one shot on goal, both of which were saved by the respective goalkeeper.
In the second half, it did not take long for the complexion of the game to flip entirely. West Alabama was awarded a free kick at the 46:32 mark and Thibault Charmey was able to convert that opportunity into a goal, giving the Tigers a 1-0 lead over the Falcons.
Due to injury, West Alabama’s starting goalkeeper, Laveres Stone, was removed at 47:22. The change in net did nothing to change the results for Montevallo, as they failed to register a goal, despite three shots on net during the second half.
Tuesday night’s matchup marked the end of the Falcons’ three game home stand. They will hit the road on Sunday, Sept. 15 to take on the University of Alabama in Huntsville. The game will start at 3:30 p.m.
