FROM STAFF REPORTS

University of Montevallo junior Ashlee Beck was named the Peach Belt Conference Golfer of the Week in women’s golf for the second time in her collegiate career Sept. 12.

Beck also earned the conference Golfer of the Week honor during her freshman season.

Beck finished in fifth place at the season-opening Smoky Mountain Intercollegiate as she helped the Falcons set a new school record in their season-opening tournament on the Highlands Course at the Sevierville Golf Club.

The junior from Athens, Ala., fired rounds of 75 and 72 to finish three-over-par 147.  Beck was just one stroke out of fourth place and five strokes behind the leader. Beck helped the Falcons to a fifth-place finish in team standings with a collective 41-over par 617, which bested the previous school record of 626 strokes in a two-round event.

Beck’s even-par second-round score of 72 is the lowest round in the PBC through the first week of play.

Beck and her teammates will return to action Sept. 16 in the opening round of the Full Moon Invitational tournament on the Falcons’ home course at Timberline Golf Club in Calera, Ala.
