Cornerstone falls at home to Abbeville Christian

Cornerstone Christian was unable to keep up with the undefeated Abbeville Christian Generals, falling at home, 43-20.

The Generals opened up scoring, getting up 23-0 on the Chargers early in the game.

The Chargers moved the ball down the field, scoring when Ian Briggs hit Trevor Howell for a 6-yard touchdown strike. The point after was good, and the score was 23-7 in favor of Abbeville.

The Generals scored once more to take a 29-7 lead into the half.

The Chargers hung tough in the second half, matching both Abbeville scores with one of their own. CCS was able to get back on the board when Briggs hit Dylan Brantley for a 64-yard touchdown pass. The Chargers scored for the last time in the when Tim Warren broke an 85-yard touchdown run to make the final score 43-20.

Despite the loss, head coach Tim Smith noted the improvement he felt his team made from the first game to week four.

“They played really well,” he said. “We grew up tonight.”

Ian Briggs led the Chargers offensively going 3-of-4 passing for 78 yards and a touchdown. Defensively, Briggs had nine tackles, Wesley Brown had seven tackles and Tim Warren had seven tackles.

Cornerstone will travel to Lyman Ward on Sept. 20.
